March 31, 2008

So it’s been a very long time since my last post (a month and a half, what what!). Unfortunately small cogs in the big capitalist wheel don’t have much time to write in blogs, don’t you know. =)

I did get that job in the mailroom, and I have been working their ever since. Okay, it’s only been a month and a half, but with my track record that’s quite an accomplishment! It started out a fun little job; the days went really fast, there was a lot to do, and the people were nice. Then it turned out that the days were going fast because I didn’t know what I was doing yet. And after a few weeks things started to slow down. A lot.

I’ve met some nice people. The girl who works in the copy center, Erica, is very nice; though I get the feeling that wondering “which Erica is coming in today?” might get a bit old. She is… slightly moody. And I don’t think I would want to upset her.

Mark is technically my boss, but he doesn’t like to tell people what to do, so we tell him what to do instead (i.e. all the heavy lifting. ^_^).

The job itself involved sorting mail (no duh), keeping all the office supplies stocked (we have over 20 different kinds of pens!), refilling the coffee stations (but I refuse to make the coffee), and lugging the mail up to the other office twice a day (it’s about 300ft away, though when it’s pouring out that can be quite far). The atmosphere is unpleasantly corporate; all the engineers are men and all their secretaries are… secretary women. Ick. Though there are some nice people, too.

Anyway, I don’t have to think about that anymore, because I’m leaving this week (let’s see if I can stick it out for the rest of the week; I’m not feeling particularly loyal). And next Monday I start my job as a bona fide Graphic Designer! Yes, I’m finally in the door!

I’ll be working at Anchor Bank as a “Graphics/Promotions Specialist.” I’ll have all sorts of duties; I think one of the reasons they hired me is to work on their kid’s programming. They already know we’re going on vacation in a month, and that’s all good. Now all I have to do is pass the drug test I took on Saturday (I’m worried my new herbal sleepy tea might do something, who knows?!).

In other news, my dad was laid off from his job, which is in fact a “very good thing” because he gets paid until next freak’n January (everyone’s jealous). So I’m going to have a career and my father is going to be unemployed. I already forwarded him a job ad yesterday. =D

For my birthday we went down to Tall Girl and I bought some pants. I got an image stabilization lens for my new camera (I’ve just started trying it out) and much fun stuff from Hubband, including Scrabble Me (you each get your own board) and a Carcassonne expansion with towers.

And with all the money we’ve been making (horray for America!) we’ve been spoiling ourselves to all sorts of presents; hubby got computer bits, I got a duvet set and made curtains for the bedroom, and we made the best purchase ever; a TiVo! I luvs my TiVo; it’s especially nice when Hubband is working late, like tonight. Having money rules.

On a sad note, Bristletips passed away a few nights ago. We buried him in the woods behind out apartment; he has a view of the park. Very nice gerbil land.

And I think that’s about it. The weather has been teasing us by melting the feet of snow, only to blizzard again the next day. We’d forgotten what ground looked like. But soon it will be time to plant in the garden!

Now if only we could find Hubband a nine-to-five job….
