Today we went to the Children’s Museum for the first time! Spencer was probably the youngest one there, but he certainly did enjoy himself. All the toys and kids running around – you would have thought he would get overstimulated, but he was all smiles for the rest of the day. We bought a membership as I’m sure we’ll be going back often!

I’ve almost finished the bed in his room – now all there is left to do is buy a mattress (okay, and make a foot-board). One day….

Yesterday I was the lead cook on a community meal for 39 people. The menu was “market fresh” – everything was from the farmer’s market. Not easy in winter! I made a crustless sausage quiche and vegetarian option, with sweet potato and normal fries. Folks seemed to enjoy it. I had planned to make a crustless apple pie as well (the farmer’s market doesn’t exactly carry flour…), but it was someone’s birthday so there was cake instead. And with the leftover apples I was able to make an apple quiche for the “Soup and Solidarity” today. Of course Garry refused to go, so we ended up having chicken fajitas for dinner – yummy.

For our walk today Spencer and I walked all the way to state street to get some citric acid (for the cheese). On the way to stopped at the art gallery, one of Spencer’s favorite places. Plus there were lots of school kids there – all the more to stare and droll at.

Today was a day of being a “human doing.” So, like any other day. But since it was a Saturday, the husband got stuck with the baby. In the morning I went to the farmer’s market to shop of Thursday’s community meal, which will be entirely made from ingredients from the farmer’s market (I figure if I can do it in winter, I’ll have mastered to eating local concept). I got to weave through the giant crowds with my old lady cart, and in the end spent nearly $140.

The weather has been pleasantly global-warmingy this winter, and today was no exception. After a community meeting on seed starting (which was not well attended, doubt anything will come of it), I spent two hours in the garden planting spinach seeds and re-barking the baths. Yes, two hours in the garden, in mid-February, in Wisconsin! Horray for greenhouse gases.

This evening I finally used a giant frame that’s been sitting around the house for over a year. I printed sepia-tone photos of the various babies, painted the backing board on the frame white, and stuck them on with double sided tape. I also created an inner shadow on the photos to make it look like they’re matted instead of just stuck on. Tricksy.

I’m wary of any diet that blames all social ills on one food item, but I did find this awesome recipe called “Muffin in a Minute” on the Wheat Belly website. It’s essentially just flax and egg mixed together and microwaved for a minute or so – additional ingredients, such as blueberries, are essential it you have taste-buds, though. It gives you a lot of energy though – the long lasting, protieny kind.

I think it was extremely helpful, if only just because I knew what to expect and things didn’t keep freaking my out. Of course, the nine hour labor also went a long way to keeping my birth natural!

Anyway, it was fun seeing all the babies. And it’s always nice to have something stimulating for Spencer to do during the day. By the way, Spencer is the one in the fox suit looking bemused.
